Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival day

Transfer to the Buggerru, in the south west of the island.

  • Accommodation: Hotel '904, B&B

Day 2: Cala Domestica (12km / 7.5 miles, 4 hours)

You start on a high! From the sleepy mining village of Buggerru, a trail rises to a limestone plateau above dramatic coastline and reaches Cala Domestica, one of the most picturesque bays of southern Sardinia. Return to the village following an inland trail through hills covered in Mediterranean macchia.

  • Accommodation: Hotel '904, B&B

Day 3: Buggerru to Fluminimaggiore (17km / 10.5 miles, 6 hours)

The longest day features some of the most rewarding sceneries of the entire week. Leave the coastline to venture inland crossing a vast mountainous area with ilex groves and some ruined buildings that bear witness to the ancient mining past of this part of Sardinia. The final descent will lead you to the Riu Savoi valley and to your accommodation, a lovely Agriturismo serving fresh local food located in the tiny hamlet of Fluminimaggiore.

  • Accommodation: Agriturismo Perdaba, B&B

Day 4: Antas (9km / 5.5 miles, 2.5 hours)

Shuttle to Antas, a suggestive Punic and Roman temple. From there your walk heads towards the caves of “Su Mannau”, where ancient Sardinian populations practised their water cults. The grottoes are a Karst complex “sculpted” 540 million years ago, and still “living”: the calcareous formations are constantly evolving. A lovely path leads back to Fluminimaggiore.

  • Accommodation: Agriturismo Rocce Bianche, B&B

Day 5: Fluminimaggiore – Sciopadroxiu (9km / 5.5 miles, 2.5 hours)

This day is dedicated to the ancient mining past of Sardinia. Following old mining trials you will reach Naracauli with the powerful and suggestive ruins of the old ore washery. Your accommodation enjoys a wonderful location overlooking the sand dunes of Piscinas.

  • Accommodation: Residence Sciopadroxiu, B&B

Day 6: Piscinas – Freedom Day (8km / 5 miles, 2 hours)

Today you are free to explore Piscinas, famous for its celebrated sand dunes, among the highest in Europe. Some dunes are covered by the Mediterranean scrub, others still alive and modelled by the Mistral, the prevailing wind in this part of the island. It is not uncommon to spot Sardinian deer coming out of the bush at sunset.

  • Accommodation: Residence Sciopadroxiu, B&B

Day 7: Sciopadroxiu - Montevecchio (15km / 9 miles, 3.5 hours)

Hike on the old trails miners used to get to Montevecchio, formerly the biggest mining town in Sardinia. The route develops along rolling hills covered in Mediterranean vegetation that offer a spectacular scenery especially in spring time.

  • Accommodation: Agriturismo Miniera Fiorita, B&B

Day 8: Departure Day

After breakfast, transfer to Cagliari airport
